Our Mission Statement: Our Mission is to provide a safety net for families most-at-risk by helping prevent infant mortality, child abuse and neglect through home-based programs that provide education, healthcare and positive parenting skills. Our Background: Sharon Rohrbach was a nurse in the Critical Care Nursery at St. Anthony's Medical Center. She was being called to the Emergency Room frequently to handle life-threatening illness in the infants sent home 24 to 48 hours after delivery. Her vision was to start an organization of Registered Nurses that would make home visits to provide medical assessment of the infants. The parents would be taught parenting skills and how to recognize the signs of illness in their infants. In 1992 Nurses for Newborns Foundation was founded by Robin Kinney and Sharon Rohrbach. It was Robin's vision to help the poor that served as the catalyst for the creation of this foundation. The foundation has been growing steadily over the last decade. Nurses for Newborns Foundation has provided nurse home visitor programs to indigent and uninsured mothers and babies in St. Louis City, County and over 25 surrounding Missouri counties. A regional office has been established in Nashville, TN since 2001 and serves surrounding counties in Middle Tennessee. Sharon is the Executive Director and guiding force of Nurses for Newborns Foundation as well as a National Consultant to hospitals, Home Health agencies and individual nurses. In June of 2000 she was awarded the "Robert Wood Johnson Community Leadership Award" for providing access to health care and in January 2001 she won the "Use Your Life" award from Oprah's "Angel Network". She was also awarded the "Women Who Inspire Us" award from Woman's Day Magazine in October 2001. |
