Sharon Rohrbach, RN Founder of Nurses for
Newborns In 1991, Sharon Rohrbach, RN, and Robin Kinney founded Nurses for
Newborns. Sharon was a nurse in the Critical Care Nursery at St. Anthony's Medical Center in
St. Louis, Missouri. She was frequently called to the hospital's emergency department to handle life-threatening
illness in the infants sent home 24 to 48 hours after delivery. Her vision was to start an organization of
Registered Nurses that would make home visits to provide medical assessment of the infants and education for
parents. It was Robin's vision to help people who are living in poverty that served as the catalyst for the
creation of this agency. Since this time, Nurses for Newborns has provided nurse home visitor
programs to indigent and uninsured mothers and babies in the St. Louis region and over 25 Missouri counties.
In 2001, a regional office was opened in Nashville, TN and currently serves surrounding counties in Middle
Tennessee.
In June of 2000 Sharon was awarded the "Robert Wood Johnson
Community Leadership Award" for providing access to health care and in January 2001 she won the "Use
Your Life" award from Oprah's "Angel Network". Sharon won the $100,000 Purpose Prize in 2007 and was
awarded the "Women Who Inspire Us" award from Woman's Day Magazine in October 2001.
Sharon retired as Nurses for Newborn's CEO in September of 2008. Sharon and Robin now provide
consulting services through their business,
Dynamic Change.
